Marina is The Gambia's premier international school and has been in existence for more than fifty years. The Junior and High Schools share an attractive, spacious campus, occupy the same site but are physically separate within the site at Fajara, Bakau - New Town area of Greater Banjul, the country's capital. The school admits students from kindergarten through to Form 7 and there are currently more than 1000 pupils on roll. As a Cambridge International Examinations Centre, Marina follows the British National Curriculum and offers IGCSE, AS and A level. Marina International School is owned by the Parent Teacher Association which elects the Board that governs the school. Although the Junior and High Schools operate separately and have different head teachers, they cooperate extensively and most Junior School students apply to the High School at the end of Key Stage 2. The Junior School at Marina includes classes for Nursery, Reception and Years 1-6. Currently Marina International School is undergoing an exciting period of transition. Under the leadership of its Head, Mr. Musa Sanneh, the High School and Mrs Fatou Jobe-Manneh of Junior School has embarked upon a process of change during which it will be transformed from a good school into one which is nothing short of excellent. To this end, the Senior Management Team has written an ambitious School Improvement Plan which will serve as a blueprint for the school's development over the next two years and beyond. Marina International School is committed to transparency in its dealings with students, parents, staff and the wider community of stakeholders. To this end, the website will be a vital portal as the school steers a course toward achieving its vision of behavioural and academic excellence.
This
site is aimed to give all parents useful information about the our School.
For new parents, most of this will be new and hopefully will provide the
information they require. For those who are already familiar with the school,
this site should also prove useful in providing a clear reference source on
different aspects of the school.
Our Mission
Marina
International School aims to provide a broad-based, high quality education,
through the delivery of an international curriculum in an environment of
cultural diversity. The school endeavours to inculcate values of tolerance,
independence and social responsibility in a wholesome atmosphere characterised
by a commitment to excellence.
In
keeping with this mission statement, all classes follow the British National
Curriculum, which has been adopted by many international schools worldwide.
As well as studying the formal curriculum, children at Marina are encouraged to
be responsible, caring and able to think independently. There are children from
at least 17 different countries and a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and a
multicultural ethos is actively promoted.
The
PTA:
Marina
is run by the Parent Teacher Association Executive Committee. This is an elected
committee of parents and teachers and has a final say in all decisions relating
to the running of the school. There is an Annual General Meeting, at which all
parents and teachers are entitled to vote. The PTA also organises fund-raising and social events and parents who are interested in helping should look for news of such events in Newsletters. Contact Information:
